Image-generating tools have similarly reduced demand for graphic design jobs by 17%. While these trends may seem alarming, they underscore a deeper shift: AI isn’t replacing creativity or problem-solving but is rather reshaping the tools and expectations associated with these skills. As AI expands, the types of skills valued in these roles evolve, reflecting the need for human oversight, judgment, and adaptability in a digital landscape.
This transformation, however, brings challenges alongside opportunities. The rise of AI-driven freelancing platforms has heightened competition, as tasks traditionally done by humans now find AI tools as direct competitors. This increase in competition has led to a surge in job bids and a higher bar for freelancer qualifications. Furthermore, the complexity of jobs in automation-prone sectors has slightly increased, requiring broader skill sets and often AI-related knowledge. Companies are willing to pay more for these skills, revealing a shift toward jobs that don’t just involve completing a task but also effectively integrating AI into workflows. AI Tool of the Week - Supercharging AI Coding Assistants with Google's Gemini Models
The Toolbox for using AI
Google has taken significant strides in advancing AI coding assistants with its latest Gemini models, notably enhancing the potential of long-context windows in code generation and understanding. This breakthrough collaboration with Sourcegraph—a company well-versed in AI-powered coding assistance—enabled extensive testing of the Gemini 1.5 Pro and Flash models on Sourcegraph’s Cody assistant, focusing on technical question answering across massive codebases. Key improvements were seen in accuracy, relevance, and user-friendliness, particularly in tasks requiring a deep understanding of complex code structures and dependencies.
Three crucial benchmarks saw remarkable gains: Essential Recall, Essential Concision, and Helpfulness. Using Gemini’s extended context, Cody improved in capturing and retaining critical information, delivering responses that were both concise and contextually rich. The enhancement also slashed hallucination rates—instances where AI produces incorrect information—from nearly 19% to around 10%, thereby boosting reliability. These upgrades promise a more effective, user-friendly tool for developers working with expansive, complex codebases.
However, working with such large contexts introduced trade-offs in response speed, initially slowing the model’s "time to first token." To address this, Sourcegraph optimized Gemini’s performance by incorporating prefetching and layered caching techniques, reducing response time from 30-40 seconds to approximately 5 seconds for 1MB contexts. These innovations highlight the transformative potential of long-context models for code generation, paving the way for even more robust and responsive AI coding assistants.

AI Innovation vs. Oversight: How the New Administration May Reshape U.S. Technology
First of all, Happy Veteran’s Day to all my fellow veterans! Thank each and every one of you for your service and dedication to this great nation!
As always, I will preface this article with that we are never going to get political here at Antics.tv, only bring you the facts and our perspectives regarding AI. That being said, with the election now behind us and a new administration on the way, that means we can expect some major changes to the Artificial Intelligence space and regulations that the current administration had in place.
In Executive Order 14091, the Biden administration established stringent measures around AI, aiming for safety, transparency, and accountability in foundational AI model development. We covered this order in detail in a previous newsletter, but here’s a quick recap: the executive order required companies to notify the federal government of AI model deployments and share the results of safety tests. The goal was to address potential risks to national security, public health, and economic stability by establishing regulatory guardrails around powerful AI systems. Key components included:
Government Notification and Safety Tests: Companies building foundation models had to submit these models for federal review before deployment, ensuring they were tested for safety risks. Specifically, Executive Order 14091 states that “companies developing foundation models that pose a serious risk to national security, economic security, or public health and safety must notify the federal government when training such models and share the results of all red-team safety tests.”
Risk Mitigation: Provisions focused on AI risks like engineering hazardous biological materials, AI-driven fraud, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
Standards Development: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) was tasked with creating robust standards for red-team testing of models.
As we look ahead to the incoming Trump administration, there’s been talk of repealing this executive order to encourage accelerated AI innovation and reduce regulatory burdens. Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the current regulations versus potential changes:

Cons of the Trump/Vance Approach
Reduced Oversight Risks: Lowering safety standards and removing notification requirements could lead to unchecked risks in foundational AI models, like cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
Potential for Corporate Favoritism: If regulations are overly relaxed, there’s concern that established tech giants could disproportionately benefit from the lack of constraints.
Ethical Implications: The removal of safety regulations could raise concerns about AI misuse, especially in military applications and surveillance, possibly sparking public backlash or international scrutiny.
These potential shifts underscore a clear divide between the regulatory-focused approach of the Biden administration and the rapid, less-constrained trajectory that the Trump administration appears to favor.
It’s clear that both approaches offer something valuable to both innovators, consumers and the public at large. Most of us can see both sides of the coin: we recognize the importance of guardrails in the AI space, especially given the immense potential and associated risks of these technologies. At the same time, there’s a delicate balance to be struck. Too much government oversight could stifle innovation and risk America falling behind in the global tech race, potentially losing its competitive edge.
With a pro-innovation administration stepping in and figures like Elon Musk possibly playing a significant role, the landscape may shift towards rapid development with fewer restrictions. This direction could unleash a new wave of opportunities, but it also raises questions about accountability and safety. If I can show my bias on any one piece of the new administration’s apparent goals, it is the attempts to lower the barriers to entry so that up and coming businesses and tech innovators can truly have their shot and not be crushed by already established corporations.

The Two Sides of AI risk
When it comes to AI, it seems like every new headline either promises a breakthrough or warns of an impending disaster. I've spent a lot of time around these conversations, both through my work and on my podcast, Artificial Antics. AI is transforming industries and unlocking new efficiencies and capabilities for businesses of all sizes. But like any powerful tool, it comes with its risks—some that are predictable, and others that catch you by surprise.
Today, I want to dive into what I see as the two sides of AI risk: the dangers that come with using it, and the risks we take by staying away.
The Risks of Using AI
When a business decides to integrate AI into its processes, it’s making a calculated gamble. Yes, the potential for optimization and insight is huge, but at what cost? Here are some of the real issues that keep me up at night when I think about the AI risks for companies.
Security Issues & Data Breach
I don’t think any company implementing AI can afford to ignore the privacy and security risks. AI systems are, by their nature, data-hungry. They learn from historical data and, in many cases, actively process personal or sensitive information to produce accurate predictions and recommendations. But with this reliance on data comes vulnerability. Hackers target AI systems because they can expose a treasure trove of personal information and confidential business data.
Think about this: if an AI system designed to handle sensitive customer information is breached, the fallout could be catastrophic. I’m talking about personal identifiable information (PII) like addresses, phone numbers, or even financial details getting into the wrong hands. The reputational damage, the fines, the legal battles—this is the kind of risk that makes even the boldest of leaders pause.
Bad Information & Wasted Time
Another thing we don’t talk about enough is the risk of bad information. AI is only as good as the data it’s fed and the way it’s trained. Inaccuracies and biases in the data lead to flawed recommendations or faulty predictions. And when you’re relying on AI to make decisions, one wrong turn can mean hours of wasted time or, even worse, costly mistakes.
I’ve seen it firsthand—an AI tool suggesting poor leads, recommending inefficient strategies, or making inaccurate predictions. Sure, it’s great when AI gets it right, but the risk of bad information being baked into your business processes is real. It can lead to wasted hours, misdirected resources, and frustration across teams.
Emotional Disconnection & Job Disruption
One thing that concerns me—and it’s a bit more philosophical—is the emotional disconnection that comes with AI. I’m a big believer in tech that empowers, but there’s a fine line between enhancement and replacement. When AI steps into traditionally human roles, there’s a risk that customers feel the difference. Whether it’s a chatbot trying to handle a frustrated customer or a predictive tool dictating employee performance, there’s an emotional gap that AI hasn’t figured out how to fill. AI lacks empathy, and when businesses rely too heavily on it, they risk losing that human touch that’s essential in customer service, employee engagement, and even leadership.
And then there’s job disruption. I don’t buy into the doom-and-gloom “AI will take all our jobs” narrative, but there’s no denying that it’s changing the workplace. Jobs that rely on repetitive tasks are particularly at risk. For some, this transition will be an opportunity to upskill and evolve; for others, it could mean layoffs and hardship. Balancing these shifts will require careful planning and a deep understanding of AI’s impact on the workforce.
The Risk of NOT Using AI
Now, let’s look at the flip side: the risks we face by not adopting AI. The way I see it, these risks are just as real and, in some cases, even more pressing.
Falling Behind Competitors
We’re living in an era where efficiency is everything. Businesses that choose to ignore AI risk falling behind. Competitors who adopt AI effectively can operate faster, make better data-driven decisions, and improve customer experiences in ways that simply aren’t possible without AI. Choosing to ignore AI is, in many ways, choosing to be outpaced.
Missed Opportunities & Inefficiencies
AI, when used well, can unlock insights buried deep in data. Without it, businesses are leaving opportunities on the table. Imagine a marketing team without AI-powered analytics. They’re working with historical data, but they’re not getting those real-time insights that could mean the difference between a successful campaign and a flop. Or consider customer service—without AI-driven chatbots or helpdesk tools, teams may be stretched thin, leading to longer response times and lower customer satisfaction. The potential gains in efficiency alone make AI worth considering, despite its risks.
Staying Stuck in Manual Mode
One of the biggest risks of ignoring AI is the potential for operational stagnation. When you rely on manual processes, you limit your ability to scale. Small inefficiencies add up, and as a business grows, these small problems become massive roadblocks. AI enables companies to streamline repetitive tasks, automate routine processes, and optimize workflows. By avoiding AI, you’re essentially capping your growth and missing out on the ability to evolve.
Balancing Both Sides of AI Risk
So, what’s the answer? I believe it’s about balance. There’s no silver bullet for handling AI risks—each company has to weigh the potential downsides with the potential gains and make an informed choice.
For me, it boils down to three principles.
First, start with a problem, not AI. Determine what the problems in your business are and then assess AI solutions for tasks that are simple and repeatable first. Your AI initiatives should be customer-led, business-led, mission-led, and almost never technology-led.
Second, implement AI with caution. Security, transparency, and governance are non-negotiable when it comes to rolling out AI. Businesses need to know where their data is going, how it’s being used, and who has access to it.
Third, keep the human element in mind. AI is a tool, not a replacement for people. By designing AI systems that work alongside people rather than replacing them, we can leverage the best of both worlds.
At the end of the day, the goal should be using AI to enhance what we do, not to eliminate the human touch or the wisdom that comes with experience. We can’t ignore AI’s risks, but we also can’t afford to ignore its potential. The answer isn’t avoiding AI altogether; it’s using it in a way that’s smart, safe, and intentional. The future is here, and it’s our job to approach it with eyes wide open.
